Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity
Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity is a partnership, home building & home repair Christian ministry serving Ottawa and part of Allegan Counties that has served more than 150 families and 700 individuals since 1990.
It is based on the principal that all God's people deserve a decent place to live and that our community is a better place when that occurs.
When Habitat families move from poverty housing into their own homes, they report better health, increased stability in the family, and children who do better in school.
Habitat for Humanity has always been a strong proponent of 'a hand up rather than a hand out.' Houses are sold to qualified Homeowner Partners without profit, using affordable mortgages.
Homeowners also complete sweat equity hours as part of the partnership. Our homeowner partners are able to re-pay their mortgages over the course of 20–25 years.
These payments, together with donations, grants, and sales from our ReStore create a sustainable revenue model that supports the construction of more homes for future Habitat partners.
Recently, we began offering home repair services at various levels so that we can serve more families and impact more communities. These repairs range in scope from repainting a home to replacing a kitchen, or insulating the home for improved efficiency.
The exciting aspect of this is our collaboration with other agencies and ministries to accomplish a great deal more together. We are excited to see what the future brings!
Also, globally, Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity supports Nicaragua Habitat for Humanity and have partnered with them from the very beginning. To date they have built 58 homes with our gifts alone!
